Ashtyn Smith is a wife, mother, former teacher, and fierce advocate for District 96 and Oklahoma. Many in the community know her as “Buddy the Buffalo” at her daughter’s local elementary school, where she has become a familiar and trusted presence among students, parents, and educators. She brings both heart and firsthand experience to the conversation about our state’s future and believes meaningful change starts with education because strong schools are the foundation of strong communities.Raised in Yukon, Ashtyn is proudly Oklahoma educated and deeply rooted in the values, work ethic, and sense of community that make this state special. She attended Oklahoma State University, where she earned her B.A. in Journalism (Public Relations), and became the first college graduate in her family. This accomplishment shaped her belief in the power of education, opportunity, and hard work.Ashtyn lives in District 96 full-time and is raising her family here. She is deeply invested in this community and understands firsthand the challenges and opportunities facing local families because she is living them alongside her neighbors every day.She believes Oklahoma can strengthen education without placing more burden on taxpayers by prioritizing smarter spending, greater transparency, accountability, and a renewed commitment to students, teachers, and families.“Quality education isn't just about the classroom. It's the catalyst for higher property values, economic growth, and a higher standard of living.”As a parent raising her children in District 96, Ashtyn understands the real decisions families face. Having her children experience both public and private schools, she knows education is not one-size-fits-all. Parents deserve options, students deserve support, and communities deserve leaders who will listen.As a certified teacher who spent real time in the classroom, Ashtyn understands education from firsthand experience. She knows the realities teachers, students, and parents face every day and she continues to stay actively involved in local schools by volunteering, supporting teachers, attending school board meetings, and keeping the focus where it belongs: on students and families.With a background in education, business, and community service, Ashtyn brings a practical, common-sense approach to leadership rooted in real-life experience. She believes in responsible decision-making, strong local communities, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used wisely and effectively.Ashtyn is fiercely loyal to her community and believes that when something isn’t right, you don’t ignore it — you fix it.Outside of her work and community involvement, Ashtyn enjoys thrifting, home projects, a strong cup of coffee, and spending time with her family. Especially supporting her children in everything they do.Ashtyn is married to her high school sweetheart, Dale, and together they are raising their two children, Campbell and Wilder, in the community they proudly call home.Ashtyn is running for State House to strengthen schools, support families, encourage economic growth, and protect the future of District 96. She is ready to deliver real results because every family deserves a voice, every community deserves representation, and every child deserves more.

Lowering costs for families must go hand in hand with smart, responsible growth. Too often, rapid development drives up housing prices and strains infrastructure without a clear plan. Ashtyn supports policies that encourage thoughtful growth, protect our neighborhoods, and ensure new development pays for the infrastructure families rely on. By planning ahead and growing responsibly, we can keep costs down and make sure development works for the people who already call our community home.

Bring Down Costs

Where you live shouldn’t determine your outcome.In Oklahoma, similar cases can lead to very different sentences depending on the county. This inconsistency undermines the trust in the system.Ashtyn supports reforms that bring greater consistency, strengthen accountability, and give judges clear guidance- while still allowing for case-by-case consideration.Greater consistency and transparency will help ensure justice is applied fairly to every Oklahoman.

One State. One Standard of Justice.

Lowering taxes should never come at the cost of student opportunity. Property tax reform matters, but in Oklahoma those dollars fund a large share of our schools and local services. Careertech depends on this funding even more, helping prepare students for real careers and strengthening our workforce. Without a responsible plan to replace lost revenue, tax cuts could weaken the programs that prepare students for real careers and strengthen our economy. Ashtyn supports thoughtful tax relief, but it must protect education, preserve local control, and ensures every student has access to opportunity.

Oklahoma is in the middle of an education crisis we can no longer ignore.As a parent involved in our schools, Ashtyn has seen firsthand how decisions directly impact students and classrooms. Our schools should be places where teachers are respected, supported, and trusted. Nothing impacts student success more than a strong teacher.That starts with prioritizing early literacy, focusing on core skills, and using technology as a tool - not a replacement for learning. When we support teachers, listen to parents, and keep students at the center, our schools and communities thrive.
